FEATURE: Los Angeles Post-Punk Act Strange Parade Unveil New Single “Bag of Blood” From Upcoming Album ‘The Watchers’
Los Angeles post-punk group Strange Parade, the most recent project of long-serving musician Brian Cleary, are expected to release their new album The Watchers on May 6th. With the group’s chemistry and mutual appreciation for various styles at the helm of their work, the band merge ’80s post-punk and art-rock with timeless psychedelic details, and on their new single “Bag of Blood”, there’s an added layer of new wave and ’60s pop to bring the narrative to life.
In line with bands such as The Chiffons, Echo & The Bunnymen, Nick Cave, and tamed Flaming Lips, Strange Parade use a driving beat to keep the momentum flowing. On “Bag of Blood”, the story paints a picture of an individual’s paranoia, starting with an social incident, blowing out into a paranoid, chemically fuelled vision of a sleepover/feeding frenzy with the subject’s blood morphed into a drug the ‘partygoers’ feed on. The song ends with the bad dream coming true and ending and a sobering realism: “They told me one day, some day, I’d have these days. No one ever promised I’d find out why.”
