Phoenix Genre-Defying Trio Belaganas Share New Video For “If You Want It”
Phoenix-based trio Belanganas released their new 3 song EP SOFTY (Songs Originally For The Youth) recently, and have now put out the glitchy music video for the hit single “If You Want It”. The Comprised of Joey J (vocals), Shanker (Vocals), and Nick Wille (guitar/drums), the group put together their latest single in pieces, with Joey making the beat in 30 minutes after cooling off from an argument with a girl, and Shanker adding in his verses later.
“’If You Want It’ is the feeling of you making it out the other side of a bad situationship, looking back, and saying ‘yea, screw everything i’m doing me.’ The driving tempo and hyperpop-esque sonics, as well the as the bold and lyrically complex verses enforce this narrative throughout the song.”, Shanker shares.
Inspired by ’00s hip-hop music videos and the bright tones of the song, the accompanying visual was a collaborative effort. Joey explains:
“We only had a few basic ideas for the music video, so and we brought in our homies Dorado and Friendo from Rhodes Creative in Phoenix to fill in the gaps for us. We did a shoot with them back in December and showed them the new songs. They really fucked with ‘If You Want It’ and said they’d be down to shoot a video for it. We knew we wanted to give it a kissing booth aesthetic and show the three of us basically just chillin’ in our shirts and ties.
Rhodes had the idea of shooting it at a different frame rate to make it look choppy and fast paced, the camera affect at the beginning with my face, the writing on the lens, and basically everything else in the video that was dope. They really made it look dope and we can’t wait for everyone to see it. It’s definitely a video that should be playing on loop in Times Square. We wanted it to be bright and colorful but also get moody here and there, and the choppiness of the way its shot fits with the hyper-pop feel of the whole song perfectly”.
Borrowing influences from the likes of Aminé, BROCKHAMPTON, and PinkPantheress, the electro-trap hit boasts a dominating hook and infectious confidence, as the three friends alternate verses against a punchy musical backdrop.
