Austin Cosmic Honky-Tonk Band The Best Around Unveil New Single “Didn’t Come Here To Count ‘Em”
Austin-based The Best Around have shared their new single “Didn’t Come Here to Count ’em”. Self-described as “cosmic honky-tonk big band”, the new single features country songwriting and instrumentation fused together with a rollicking horn section and synthesizers to create an infectious and refreshing take on rowdy alt-country. The song also features guest drums and percussion work from Ian Romano of Daniel Romano & The Outfit.
With its title coming from a funny family interaction between singer-songwriter Camron Rushin’s aunt and uncle about how many beers he had to drink, the response “I didn’t come here to count ’em. I came here to drink ’em” quickly became the theme of the song. With its eccentric country twang and unpredictable big band sound, “Didn’t Come Here To Count ’em” embraces its oddities with psychedelic instrumentation and cheeky lyricism.
