Electro-Pop Act Sylvan Esso Step Into A New Sound With Latest Single “Your Reality”

Rigning in a new era, Sylvan Esso have recently released their new single, accompanied by a visualizer, titled “Your Reality.” Describing their first three albums as a trilogy that is now complete, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn are launching themselves into a period that is stranger and more cathartic than the band has ever been. 

Driven by synths and Meath’s  vocals at the onset, “Your Reality” feels somewhat disconnected and sparse as it builds into a deeper beat as all the elements come together, adding a string arrangement from Gabriel Kahane, and delicate yet intense drums by TJ Maiani. The complexly layered single serves as the introduction to this new iteration of the band, a reference point “for how weird we can take it,” according to Sanborn. “How bare and strange something can be.” 

Through the lyrics, Meath recounts how to live. Singing about swimming in the air and walking in the sky, posing a question that has preoccupied the post-pandemic world: “Were there rules originally, or are we learning how to be?” From the depths of the mix an echoing bed of backing vocals answers, “No rules.” 

“Your Reality” follows the scorching arrival of recent single, “Sunburn.” Sylvan Esso has a slew of upcoming live shows, where you can see (and hear) the start of the new era for yourself.
