Toronto Neo-R&B Artist Jesse Maxwell Returns With New Single “Outspoken”
With his new album LP2 scheduled for release this August, Toronto neo-R&B artist and producer Jesse Maxwell has shared his latest single “Outspoken”.
As both an artist and human who embraces self-growth, his upcoming release showcases a shift in style, as he lets go of insecurities to discover new territory.
“Since my last project, Hellion, I feel I’ve grown in my production style and lyrics – speaking in a more interesting way, and making bolder production choices,” says Maxwell. “I also feel like this album, LP2, sounds more authentic to what I want to sound like as an artist. I’m less afraid to be ‘out there’ and lately it’s something I’ve been gravitating more towards.”
And “Outspoken” is no different, as he swaps neo-soul instrumentation for punchy, dense electronic production to make room for his vocals to lament about a romantic separation. Allowing himself to be candid and expressive, the song is equal parts empowering with its lushness and moody with its shadowy delivery.
For Maxwell, changing up his approach and refining his sound constantly is core to his drive to release new material at what he admits is a fairly furious pace. By way of explanation, he says: “Music’s a big part of my sobriety. I have an addictive personality, but I try to channel that into healthier things, which,” he adds, “goes hand-in-hand with pushing out a shit ton of songs.”
