Australian Indie Pop Artist Daphnie Shares New Single “Sugarcoat”
Sydney-based drummer/producer Alistair Hayes spent a number of years working with other artists before deciding to take control of his own sound and performance by embarking on a solo journey as Daphnie. With three singles under his belt as of this year, “Sugarcoat” is the artist’s sophomore offering, embracing his indie pop influences and bedroom pop sensibilities.
The bright and bouncy tune plays with crunchy bass lines and timeless pop groove, as he sings about the passing feelings of someone catching your eye.
“Sugarcoat is the feeling of falling in love with a stranger who you’ve passed on the street”, he shares. “You imagine talking to them and living an entire life together before they walk out of sight faster than you could find the courage to say hi. You hope to see them again, and you do! It’s been ages, you’re not having the best day and it looks like they’re not either. With the same pair of shoes they wore the first time, now tattered and old, you’d still choose them in a heartbeat. Your fantasy of everything they are and what you could be together sugarcoating every idea you have of them.”
