UK Indie Rock Outfit Broken Fires Return To Their Early 20s On New Single “Underside”
British indie rock group Broken Fires are set to release their new album Hymn on October 28th via Phwoar and Peace. Leading the way is the nostalgic and reflective new single “Underside”.
Opening with slow-burning, and glossy ’00s Decemberists style guitars, the track gradually opens up, mirroring its introspective energy.
Vocalist Tom Stephens explains: “In my early 20s I was still a complete child! I can remember that feeling of a relationship breaking down, being gutted but also wanting to go out and go wild. So Underside is really about that. It’s a pop song about wanting to drown your sorrows in dive bars.”
Comparisons to Catfish & the Bottlemen and Weezer come to mind, as the track progresses. Its focused energy and lyricism make for a captivating and relatable offering for longtime indie rock fans.
