Ottawa Indie Duo Soft Top Intrepid Share Heartbreaking New Single “Filmore”
Ottawa songwriters Rob LaPlante and Chris Galambos began releasing music together as Soft Top Intrepid back in 2021. Now onto their fourth single, the pair have shared the heartbreaking track “Filmore”, written about the loss of a loved one.
“I started Fillmore initially as a guitar riff in summer of 2021. Though I was keen about the guitar melody, it didn’t feel like the right time to finish it, for whatever reason”, Rob shares. “Fast forward to late April of 2022, my father-in-law Russ passes from cancer. An absolutely heartbreaking period of time for my spouse, her family and I, I felt the need to get things off of my chest through music.
It just so happened that the riff I wrote the year before was perfectly in tune with how I felt and the time in my life with which my family and I were processing copious amounts of grief. I built on the initial riff and had the song finished within a couple of weeks, words and all. I think this track feels like a day on the lake; fishing in the morning sun without a worry on your mind and nowhere to be – that of which Russ was very much about.”
Built on a foundation of gentle guitar plucking, the delicate and minimalist single leaves plenty of space for the lyrics and emotions to take centre stage.
