Indie Pop Act half•alive Announce Sophomore Album ‘Conditions Of A Punk’ With Introspective Breakup Single “Did I Make You Up?”
Sharing a new single and news of a new album, half•alive are ready to introduce listeners to their next piece of work. The California based indie pop trio will release their sophomore album, Conditions Of A Punk, on December 2nd. Giving a first look at what listeners can expect, “Did I Make You Up?” is an introspective track, examining what comes after you’ve parted ways with a partner.
Vocalist Josh Taylor says, ““Did I Make You Up?” represents the moment of wonder; after a breakup and the dust settles, you wonder if the person you were with was the person you broke up with, or if you were simply muting their flaws & projecting who you wanted them to be.” Overall upbeat, the arrangement is true to the group’s sound – clear vocals, backed by harmony, percussion and synths, blending seemingly effortlessly.
Alongside the single comes the music video that returns to the familiar half•alive choreographed dance, one-take style, directed by Aidan Carberry of JA collective, who specialize in creative direction, choreography and dance. “JA [Collective] has been performing with us since our very first show, so naturally, this video is in some ways an extension of that show. Those who’ve seen it will recognize the dance integration as well as the giant sheet we often deploy throughout the show for shadow play, only this time, it’s five times as big,” shares Taylor. The shadowed figures connect wonderfully to the lyrics, as Taylor examines whether he’s made up an image of a person in his mind, or if they were really real, much like a shadow flitting in and out of focus.
The upcoming album will be made up of 18 tracks, exploring the breaking and mending of a heart, with the band sharing that it shows them at their most vulnerable and most mature musically.
