Fast-Rising Indie Singer-Songwriter Samia Teases Upcoming Sophomore Album With “Mad At Me”

After releasing her debut album The Baby in 2020 and the short-and-sweet follow-up EP The Scout in 2021, fast-rising Nashville-based singer-songwriter Samia has announced her sophomore album Honey is set for release on January 27th via Grand Jury Music.

Leading the way is her new single and video “Mad At Me”, co-directed by Samia and Muriel Knudson. Featuring writing credits by Rostam (of Vampire Weekend), and featuring electro-hip-hop artist Papa Mbye, “Mad At Me” is one of Samia’s most well-rounded singles release to date.

According to Samia: “The lyrics for ‘Mad At Me’ came from a poem I’d written about imagining what it’d be like to stop caring about what anyone was thinking. I was cosplaying a position that I haven’t experienced –  which is of literally any confidence in my point of view. In the video we tried to embody that character – a bunch of girls having a good time in spite of it all. It is a big lie,” she admits, going on to say: “I wrote it with Rostam Batmanglij on the day we met. Such an honor to have Papa Mbye on it!!”

Rostam’s indie electro-rock influences come barreling forward on the song’s driving guitar riff and tones, while Samia’s lush, angelic vocals offer a welcoming contrast to the buzzing instrumentation. With her popularity growing day by day, Samia continues to find ways to stand out in her genre.
