Indie Bedroom Rock Group GRLwood Share Fear The Risks Of Ambition On New Single “Keep It Average”

Singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Rej Forester first started the indie DIY act GRLwood back in 2016 as a solo effort. The Louisville-based project has since doubled in size, joined by drummer Mia Morris, and the pair have gone on to release two full-lengths and a handful of singles and EPs. Now, GRLwood have shared their third single of the year with “Keep It Average”, an unsuspectingly tenacious song about being fearful of taking risks while wanting to push for a better life.

Elaborating on the track, Rej Forester shares, “When the world seems to beat you down, it can feel like hiding yourself and reflecting the worlds apathetic/self serving attitude back at it, is the only way to protect yourself, “keeping it average.” But if you put all of our energy into hiding yourself from the potential risks, you also hide yourself from the potential gains.”

Embodying the feeling of “being a chicken” about things, the accompanying music video features a lost chicken out in the world that faces its own obstacles along the way, soundtracked by Forester’s blistering guitar and dynamic vocal performance.
