Manchester Orchestra Return With Latest Single “No Rule” Following Last Year’s ‘The Million Masks of God’
Manchester Orchestra are back, following their highly successful The Million Masks of God album release last April. New single “No Rule” was started during the recording sessions of the last album, and produced in part by the band’s own Andy Hull and Robert McDowell, together with Catherine Marks and Ethan Gruska.
“No Rule” is a dynamic track, clocking in at 5:20. A layered anthem, the song twists, turns, and blooms as it progresses, bringing together a unique listening experience that at the same time remains true to what fans have come to expect from Manchester Orchestra at its core.
Opening with strummer guitar and a piano melody, Hull’s recognizable vocals quickly come into the track. The similarities to other tracks off The Million Masks of God can be heard throughout the instrumentation, the same haunted, dark and brooding tone underlying the track at its outset brings to mind the album’s first single,“Bedhead,” for example. As it progresses, it changes to a lighter instrumentation, only to fold back into itself and bring back a heavier, grunge tone to ultimately close out the song. A dynamic track, its connection to last year’s album is clear, though it’s more than able to stand alone.
Hull explains: “We are very proud to release our new song ‘No Rule’ into the world. Written and worked on during the Million Masks sessions, this brave soul took a little longer to cook than the rest. We hope you enjoy. All Love. M.O.”
