Norway’s Bo Milli Shares Honest New Single “FOMO”

Norway’s Bo Milli has shared new track “FOMO,” a brutally honest indie pop piece that highlights the struggles of an entire generation navigating the world in a digital age.

The newly released single brings together hyper-self aware and at times self-deprecating lyricism, with shrewd observations of her digital-obsessed generation. From the song’s start, Bo Milli expertly captures the surreality of young adulthood, atop a bed of eclectic surging indie rock instrumentation. With lyrics that speak to waiting on someone to text first, only to then see them out enjoying their life and consequently spiraling and questioning your own worth, it’s likely that most anyone can relate to the theme at the track’s core.

About the track, Bo Milli says: “I like writing lyrics that sketch out what someone would say to another person if they were actually honest. In that vein, FOMO is about the breaking point in a casual relationship where I lose my cool — in a very literal sense: while that other person is out partying with cool people, I’m unable to hide my true feelings on the matter, unable to stay emotionally distant and hard-to-get. It’s about losing a game you’ve been engaged in with someone, because you care more. And it’s about the ‘fear of missing out’ that constant digital insight into other peoples life has fostered.”

Bo Milli (a deconstruction of her birth name, Emilie Østebø) grew up in the suburbs of Karmøy, an island off the west coast of Norway, before relocating to Oslo. Now based in Bergen, the 21-year-old artist has spent the past two years documenting her experience coming of age during a global pandemic, and processing the realities of modern day life. She made her debut earlier this year with “At The Wheel,” releasing a second track, “How It Is,” a few months later. Her first full length project is due for release in 2023.
