Fast-Rising Toronto Alt Rock Artist Cam Kahin Announces Dine Alone Records Debut EP ‘When It’s All Over’; Shares Haunting New Single “birds”
Toronto-based alternative rock artist Cam Kahin recently signed to the iconic Dine Alone Records after proving himself through compelling live shows and captivating previous releases. His label debut EP When It’s All Over is set for release on April 6th, and will certainly be the springboard for a promising rip through the Canadian post-hardcore/alternative scene.
Lighting the beacons is his new single “birds” and its cinematic music video accompaniment. Opening with his pensive vocals, the track gradual finds its space as the guitars and percussion begin to surround and spin out of control. His strength as a clean and hardcore vocalist gives “birds” a chilling edge, adding to the grim qualities of the track.
Kahin shares, “[It’s] the heaviest song I’ve ever written, both sonically and lyrically. It’s a four and a half minute panic attack, collapsing into and out of a screaming, sludgy breakdown. My darkest and most unapologetic song to date.”
Mirroring its dark concept, the music video directed by Lebni Thodakee Avitia is an ode to the thriller genre. “The message of the song is something I can relate to, as I had experienced derealization/depersonalization myself,” explains Avitia. “I wanted to convey that feeling, but also knew that those phases of depression are seen as an evil spirit trying to take over in some religious cultures. I threw that twist in as an homage to some of mine and Cam’s favorite horror movies.”
Expanding further on the EP, Kahin continues, “WHEN IT’S ALL OVER is a depression-fueled coming-of-age story. Every month you’re a different person. It’s a lot of feeling uncomfortable, and not knowing what’s stable and what’s not.”
