French Post-Punk Act You Said Strange Detail Upcoming Album With New Single “Control”

Closing off 2022 with their album Thousand Shadows Vol.1, French post-punk/noise-pop group You Said Strange have announced its immediate follow-up with its second volume, due April 28th via EXAG / Le Cépe Records. The combined halves will build into the band’s sophomore album, and with its release just around the corner, the band have shared its new focus single “Control”.

Mixing catchy guitar riffs and hypnotic vocal melodies, the new single dips the band’s sound into the world of psych-pop and post-punk revival. “The newest single from these Thousand Shadows, ‘Control,’ addresses the forgetfulness of self in simple or harmful relationships”, the band share. “The dangerousness of spirits in search of redemption whatever the cost, even if it means giving the reins of their lives to anyone, from the most tender to the most dangerous of beings. Chopped, tense instrumentation mixed with melodious and pop lines unveil this idea with modesty and strength.”

Despite its somewhat haunting origins, the song’s upbeat and snappy melody give a more relaxed and dreamy feel to their discography, reminiscent of acts such as Future Islands, Modest Mouse, and Parquet Courts.
