POSTDATA Shares New Single “Mine The Sea,” Alongside Music Video & Upcoming LP Announcement
POSTDATA – solo music project of Wintersleep’s lead singer and songwriter, Paul Murphy – recently released the first single and music video from his forthcoming album. Set for release on September 22, 2023, Run Wild will be Murphy’s fourth album released as POSTDATA, and will see a shift from the pace and tone of 2021’s Twin Flames.
“Mine The Sea” is a steady, sweeping track, seeing Murphy explore themes of self-discovery and self-confidence. ““Mine The Sea” is the idea of digging deeper into yourself to find who you are and where you want to go,” he shares. “It’s about the search…but also about letting go of habitual ways and allowing yourself to be being open to possibility.”
The track’s music video, directed by Griffin O’toole, nods reverently to Radiohead – playing the videos side by side it’s easy to see the parallels, while O’toole injects new colour and life into the “Mine The Sea” visualizer. “Creating this video with [Murphy] was a blast,” he says. “When [he] approached me with this song I was so excited to get creative. Inspired by Radiohead’s video for “House of Card’s” I wanted to pay homage to something that was so groundbreaking for its time, but still make it new and special.”
The video sees Murphy alternating between distorted holograph form and a more stable, ‘real’ version of himself. As the single focus of the video, there’s a clear connection to the theme of the lyrics. As it progresses, warm and cool toned colours begin merging, seemingly representative of the results of the self discovery journey at the heart of the single, resulting in a layered visual representation of the song and an exciting introduction to the new music to come.
