It is of no surprise that Austin, Texas post-rock group Explosions in the Sky have been featured on numerous soundtracks (Friday Night Lights, The Kite Runner), and even asked to compose a few as well (Manglehorn, Lone Survivor). Although a rock band, their music cultivates emotion and captivates the listener’s attention through dramatic builds and instrumentation in similar fashion to an orchestra. Like a needle pricking the skin, or the touch of a lover’s hand, the music of Explosions in the Sky is felt throughout the entire body.

Formed back in 1999, Explosions in the Sky are releasing their seventh studio album The Wilderness (eleventh if you include soundtracks) on April 1st. As per atmospheric rock style, the band has released their second single “Logic Of a Dream”, touching just below the seven minute mark.

A hesitant guitar phrase opens the song, before suddenly falling into a massive swell of effects. The new track seems to pass through with different movements, each more inciting than the prior. Percussion, guitar, distortion, and rhythmic progression are all used to their full advantage, evoking a full-body experience.

Sit back and enjoy “Logic Of a Dream” below. You can catch Explosions on tour this spring, and pre-order their new album here. As well, you can hear the album’s lead single “Disintegration Anxiety“.
