Well, the days of Chet Faker are over. The moniker of the Australian singer-songwriter/producer has been scraped, and instead he will now be performing and writing music under his real name: Nick Murphy.

As an evolutionary change of sorts, Murphy shared a statement on Facebook earlier this week:

“its been half a decade since I started releasing music as Chet Faker and all of you have been the driving force behind the music since.
theres an evolution happening and I wanted to let you know where its going.
the next record will be under my own name, Nick Murphy.
Chet Faker will always be a part of the music.
This is next.”

Along with the name change, his music has also shifted, reaching deeper into the experimental realm, and incorporating stronger effects and a more aggressive energy. Murphy has chosen to begin the new chapter of his career by sharing the first look in the form of “Fear Less”. Opening in soft, Faker-esuqe fashion, the new single quickly becomes doused in varying textures, as Murphy’s voice finds a sharper edge, before the electronic instrumentation opens up and unleashes a much darker side, sharing shadowy similarities to a passionate Trent Reznor.
