Basement Revolver – Johnny

When I suggest that fans of Canadian lo-fi pop act Alvvays will enjoy Hamilton four piece Basement Revolver, I truly mean it; the resemblance between the two is uncanny.

Basement Revolver, the latest indie pop act to come out of the GTA, have shared their latest single “Johnny”. Lead by vocalist Chrisy Hurn, their comparison to Alvvays begins with Hurn’s soft voice resembling Molly Rankin instantly. More so, the band’s DIY production, and slow-burning indie rock sound give off a familiar head-in-the-clouds sound.

Written as a way for Hurn to “rationalize difficulties with [her] past partner and all the heartache and angst that comes from having a really bad time”, the new single uses subtle hooks and atmospheric distortion to ring in that right now is “a really bad time”.

Sit back and enjoy the single below, and visit their bandcamp for more music.
