POLIÇA – Forget Me Now

After falling off her roof shovelling ice in 2018, POLIÇA frontwoman Channy Leaneagh was confined to a rehabilitating state for months. Her recovery and rediscovery of her identity over the past year has forged the theme for the band’s upcoming fourth album When We Stay Alive.

In line with the album’s focus on understanding your true self, and acceptance that comes with self-identity, their latest single “Forget Me Now” tackles the concept of recognizing destructive patterns in romance.

“‘Forget Me Now’ is letting off some steam. It’s about recognizing a pattern of choosing people who can’t love you how you wish to be loved. It’s still remaining very grateful, counting blessings day and night; but don’t confuse being at peace with being a pushover,” says singer Channy Leaneagh. “I think I wrote these words while angry-shoveling this winter. How does it go? ‘Choose a liar once and that’s the liar’s fault; choose a liar three times and it seems maybe I likes liars?’

Amongst the bitter-sweet lyrics, POLIÇA find strength in a brooding, rich electronic rock sound on “Forget Me Now”, allowing Leaneagh’s soft, yet powerful vocals sing her lyrics out in front. It’s dense, capturing, and for some, a little too relatable.
