Mick Jenkins – Carefree (Music Video)
Huntsville, Alabama native Mick Jenkins is starting the new year off with the release of his new The Circus EP on Friday January 10th. The seven-track effort is a look into his upcoming full-length, and if the EP is lengthy, I can only imagine what the future release will hold.
The lead single “Carefree”, and its accompanying music video provide a taste of Jenkins’ new music. With his familiar Southern sound and flow, “Carefree” boasts a slick, dense production quality underneath that helps to highlight the rapper’s poetic and analytical lyric writing.
Jenkins explains the new EP covers his perspective of the current world and unpredictable climate: “…The Circus EP is a body of work about just that. These days it’s very hard to look at the state of the world and popular culture and not see allegory that makes this metaphor our reality more often than not.”
The music video was directed by the Jack Berget, who is best known for his work with Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, and other prolific hip-hop artists. His use of colours, shadows, and warped sense of time make the accompanying visuals a powerful match for the song.
