Hanni El Khatib – DUMB (Music Video)
In the same way that Beck seems to bounce effortlessly between genres across an album or even a single track, Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Hanni El Khatib isn’t confined to a single defining sound.
With his fifth studio album FLIGHT hitting shelves on May 15th, the skateboarder-turned-musician has released a third taste of his new LP, this time coming in the form of the doo-wop meets hip-hop track “DUMB”.
There’s bits of soul, blues, funk, hip-hop, rock, and pop blended together like paint on a palette. It’s vibrancy is subtle but dense, making use of the song’s blues scale hook as a foundation. Accompanied by the ’80’s/’90’s animated music video, the song’s low register and ominous swagger comes to life in the form of a secret agent.
