JÁNA defies perfection on new single “Lotus”

It’s no surprise how superficial society has become ; the omnipresent allure of social media has made it a daily challenge of remaining perfect in almost every aspect of life – hair, clothes, art and much more continue to face limitless expectations in search of perfection.

Swedish indie artist JÁNA was inspired to write her new single “Lotus” after a conversation with a friend about finding freedom from needing to be perfect “My friend and I spoke about only being loved when showing off the ‘final product’, or ‘the perfect version of yourself’. The Lotus is a flower that blooms in the most ugliest places. It can be seen as a metaphor to allow people to grow – something beautiful might grow from a less than beautiful situation.”

JÁNA helps elevate the metaphor of a beautiful flower with her glossy jazz-infused R&B style as she sings “I live to know what to do / To be loved by you / Down in the mud can you / See the lotus bloom?”.

Washed with hazy guitars and dreamy vocals, “Lotus” showcases the young artist’s power as a rising star. The Swedish artist collaborated with Little Dragon drummer Erik Bodin on her new single and her upcoming debut EP Flowerworks, out July 3rd.
