Grace Gillespie escapes from life in her new single “HUH”
Folk-pop artist Grace Gillespie wrote her new single while biking to work, passing by unhappy faces in the cars beside her:
“I wrote the lyrics to “HUH” whilst cycling to work and watching the miserable commuters dragging themselves to places they don’t want to be. The absurdity of the situation struck me and I momentarily saw the scene as if through the eyes of a child, asking – why do we do this to ourselves?“
Her dreamy, psych-folk tune “HUH” takes listeners back to the days of a simpler time, when the freedom of childhood was king and responsibility was a far-off concern.
The airy, ’70s aesthetic shares ties to Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, and more contemporary names like Laura Marling and Bon Iver. Her hazy voice playful opens up alongside the smooth bass lines and free-moving guitar rhythms as she sings about “swinging in the sunshine”.
