0171 Blur Reality With Their New Single “Follow”; Announce Upcoming EP
London-based electronic duo O171 have announced their sophomore EP Change Nothing will be out August 14th. From the release comes the edgy electro-pop tune “Follow”.
Known for pushing the boundaries of dance music with their dark, dystopian style of experimental electro-pop, the pair of Joe Bedell-Brill and Georgie Hoare were inspired by ’90s pop on their new single “Follow”, except they have swapped the bubblegum pop aesthetic for drenching realism.
“It’s all about a longing to just let go and believe that everything’s fine, everything’s perfect, even if you know it’s a lie”, explains 0171. “This is the fantasy world that pop music provides – a world where you really can just take someone’s hand and drive off into the sunset with the top down. We know it’s fake, but we might as well believe in it.”
The new music video tells the story of a man who gets lost in that fantasy, unsure of what is real and what is fake. Through glitchy visuals and warped storytelling, “Follow”‘s video gives superficial colouring to the doom-electronic track.
