Queer-Punk Group Dream Nails Get Fit In New Video For “Jillian”
London queercore group Dream Nails have become increasingly well-known for their empowering, spirited sound providing an underrepresented queer and feminist perspective in the punk scene. Their self-titled debut full-length is set to be released on August 28th, delivering their brand of ferocity and humour.
From the album is their new single “Jillian”, a rambunctious and warmhearted DIY punk tune about body positivity and coming out set to at-home workout DVDs. Vocalist Janey Starling explains:
“This is a song about realizing you’re queer while you’re doing a workout DVD. It’s a personal-power anthem about finding the strength to come out; that’s what the line ‘I feel the fear leaving my body’ is all about”.
Featuring a montage of homemade videos from the band and their friends/fans, the music video is a fun taste of people just being themselves and staying fit.
“Both [bassist] Mimi and I discovered strength training through Jillian Michaels’ ‘30 Day Shred’ home DVD, and the catch-phrases were too good to not make a song from! Since then, she’s said some uncool and unkind stuff to Lizzo, which we were really gutted to hear. This song is very much about finding your own strength, regardless of your body shape”.
Jillian Michaels would be proud.
You can pre-order Dream Nails now through Dine Alone/Alcopop! Records, and the physical vinyl bundles will include a signed 40-page handmade Zine from the band.
