Japanese Psych-pop Trio BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON Go With the Flow On “Numb”

Formed in 2017 in Osaka, Japan, BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON is composed of Shohei Megumi (vocals, guitar), Yusuke Okada (drums) and Ayu Megumi (bass, vocals), a young band that captures the free-flowing spirit and capabilities of psych-rock and indie pop. Their debut EP Some Same Soul was released this past week, and the trio are already making waves with their irresistible and familiar psych-rock sound.

The EP’s lead single “Numb” shares an uncanny resemblance to the airy falsetto and sugary psych-pop of Kevin Parker’s earlier discography, playing with the reverb-filled vocals that drift seamlessly through the speakers overtop washed out instrumentals.

The band shares: “‘Numb’ is a psych-pop song. The whole part is made of the same 4 chords, but its drum beats are constantly changing like a wave. The song is about the feeling of numbness, which might be the answer for all the questions you may have for people. Let yourself flow with numbness.”

The song is split into two parts, opening with the 2010-Tame Impala before pushing the sound back into indie lofi and guitar-pop realm.
