Former Mayday Parade Vocalist Jason Lancaster Shares New Solo Track “Good Things Only Happen When You’re Good”
A familiar voice for Mayday Parade or Go Radio fans, Jason Lancaster’s newest release matches his standout vocals with pop punk instrumentals to deliver “Good Things Only Happen When You’re Good.” Reminiscent of his early days in Mayday Parade, the single is an essential addition to any pop-punk playlist.
A love story that plays into the genre’s classic trope of hard-to-come-by love, the upbeat chorus has Lancaster singing from the vantage point of falling in love with a girl, something it seems neither party thought would happen. “She said don’t love me cause I’m kind of a mess / I said I’m just surprised I haven’t scared you off yet,” he says in the chorus. The bridge continues with the nostalgic theme of running out of time, and being stuck in a small town, with lyrics like “slow down / we’ve got forever if you want to take your time / let’s take our time, / and this town, it’s got a lot to talk about / so take your time,” bringing listeners through a softer break in the song.
“Good Things…” closes by tying the story together, with the lyrics, “I said I think I love you from just under my breath / and your eyes have a shine, it’s something I can’t forget,” and Lancaster’s vocals standing alone, reminding listeners that “we’ve got forever if we want.”
His first solo music in 6 years, “Good Things Only Happen If You’re Good” features former Mayday Parade bandmate Jake Bundrik on drums, adding to the nostalgic sound of early releases with the pair playing together. On working with Bundrik again, Lancaster said that “it was a trip down a familiar, awesome road. I think we laughed more than we worked.”
Lancaster’s 6 song EP, Say I’m What You Want is set to be released on December 11th, but you can stream the single here to tide you over until then.
