Bastian Benjamin Shares Spine-Chilling New Music Video For “Concrete”
Dutch electronic producer Bastian Benjamin is set to release his new album Two Truths on December 4th. The young artist based out of Deventer, Netherlands has been fashioning music since he was a kid, eventually debuting his first single “Come Close” at 18. Now in his early twenties, Benjamin has embarked on the next phase of his career, continuing a series of new releases with the powerful single “Concrete” and its accompanying music video.
“Concrete” is a powerful and electrifying release, blending together elements of industrial, ambience, techno, and experimental in line with the genre-defying style of Oneohtrix Point Never. Benjamin creates blocks of texture with his glitchy melodies and sharp-edged time signatures as the song morphs into various shapes and sounds. Haunting vocal sounds and tension building drops create an eerie and tantalizing experience, allowing the music video to coincide with its ominous and surreal aesthetic.
Featuring statues coming to life in a museum-turned-labyrinth, the music video is a thriller of sorts, directed by Benjamin himself along with videographer Stern Nordsiek and movement director Ibrah Silas Jackson. About the video, Benjamin shares, “This is my third video clip, and definitely my biggest one yet. I’ve always wanted to create videos, as well as music. Making videos always made me a little bit scared because I have no experience and/or knowledge about directing. It’s crazy to see how much you can achieve when you just start somewhere and see where the ship will take you.”
