Lo Talker Make Their Debut With The Cork-Popping Video For “No Champagne”
Athens, Georgia folk-rock quintet Lo Talker is the brainchild of former Roadkill Ghost Choir frontman Andrew Shepard. Bringing along RGC bassist and brother Zach, as well as Alec Stanley (guitar/keyboard), Rhett Fuller (guitar), and Jeremiah Johnson (drums), Shepard and his band have made their debut as Lo Talker. Opening their discography is the psychedelic-folk-pop tune “No Champagne”, a colourful lit song with politically-driven undertones.
About the song, Andrew says “it’s about having a reckoning with your past, fighting a religious culture war with political weirdos and grifters, and the absurdity of just being”, as the chaos of the world surrounds us.
The song’s grooving bass line and pop sensibilities share the same heartwarming qualities as an upbeat Andy Shauf, with Shepard’s gated and raspy, yet soothing voice finding common ground. The hazy wash of fractured tape loops and sunny guitar strumming help to glaze over the heaviness of the lyrics, making sure not to distract from the song’s upbeat energy.
With lyrics written on almost everything and anything they could get their hands on, the folk rock trio have some fun in the accompanying music video. From karaoke nights to sidewalk strolls to champagne popping, the new video shows the band’s fun side, making a wonderful first impression as a group.
