For Those I Love Shares Stunning Visual Aid For His Poetic New Single “Top Scheme”
Irish multi-instrumentalist, visual artist, and songwriter Dave Balfe, better known as For Those I Love, locked himself away in his home studio for a few months to create his upcoming self-titled debut album. Following the tragic death of his best friend in 2018, Balfe was inspired to write over 76 songs – 9 of which will be on the album. From the release is his new single “Top Scheme”, the follow-up to the heavy-hearted “I Have A Love” that was directly inspired by the loss. This time, Balfe exchanges grief for frustration in the hard-hitting single.
About the song, Balfe shares, “I wrote ‘Top Scheme’ to directly spit in the face of the state, the banks, and those that continue to socially cripple the less fortunate without ever looking at the world we have been forced to live and grow within. It sits within a wider group of songs that look at the social alienation of the working class and how that continues to haunt us as we grow older.”
Overtop a glitchy electronica beat, Balfe shreds apart the social and economical hardships of Ireland with an aggressive, spoken-word delivery. His frustration and anger towards the clear division between the upper class and the rest is hard to hide as he rips through statistics and strong-armed observations. His style is commanding and unique, making the project well-rounded as the music video adds to the homegrown emotions pouring into his music.
