The Bonnie Doons Make The Jump With New Single “The Betweeners” From EP Out Nov 20

Since 2017, Brisbane’s The Bonnie Doons have been writing and performing together, building their reputation and sound. Ahead of the November 20th release of their four-track EP comes title track and single “The Betweeners”.

The EP itself is a musical journey focused on the intricacies of relationships, and the latest single fits the narrative perfectly. Co-guitarist and vocalists Kane Kennedy and Torian Brewer co-wrote the song that they say is about “being stuck in limbo because you’re too afraid to just commit to making a decision. You know what you need to do, but you’re avoiding it because it’s a tough one.”

With a laidback sound reminiscent of early Red Hot Chili Peppers that brings to mind days in the sun and long summer nights, there’s an effortless groove and rhythm that’s easy to sink into, brought to life by rhythmic guitar melodies. With elements of hip-hop and alt-rock incorporated in the track, The Bonnie Doons have brought to life a unique blend of genres to create a sound all their own.

Speaking further on the song’s inspiration, Kennedy says the underlying message in the song is that “we all need to make our decisions…and commit to them. Too many people let life pass them by because they sit there hesitating“. With lyrics like the  “it’s a sweet sensation when we’re stuck in between” and “It’s time to clean this mess up of the floor, got nowhere to hide no more so just admit it,” the message comes through loud and clear. As lovely as limbo may be before you make your final decision and have to stick to your guns, there’s an eventual need to progress and act before things turn into a complete mess.

Steering away from the Aussie surf-rock of their previous releases and into a more 90’s pop sound, the five-piece outfit were able to challenge themselves and progress in their music. The upcoming EP will further showcase their move into a new direction and you can listen to the lead single “The Betweeners” below to get your first taste.
