Zed Kenzo Has Some Fun On Bass-Crunching New Single “Racist”

Following the release of her 2019 EP Baby Swag, Milwaukee native Zed Kenzo is continuing her style of unapologetic hip-hop with the unforgiving and gritty new single “Racist”.

Trained as a classical pianist, Zed has evolved her songwriting style to incorporate 90’s hip hop and R&B, with the energizing genres of dance and post-hardcore music right behind. On “Racist”, it all comes together, letting her personality sink its teeth into the track. Speaking about the new single, she said, “It’s really just me talking shit. It has nothing to do with racism, we just thought the instrumental was funny and provocative.”

That carefree attitude and experimental freedom pays off on the new single, as the alternative hip-hop artist channels M.I.A. and Die Antwoord for a gut-punching, bass-heavy track that’s basically about nothing. Produced by collaborator and friend Crystal Knives, “Racist” features Zed boasting her way overtop a screaming sample of “that’s racist!” and crushing bass.
