Nathaniel Paul Hoff of The Bergamot Shares New Single “It’s All A Rage”
Since embarking in a career in music in 2015, Nathaniel Paul Hoff has sought out avenues to write songs. His most recent project has been performing as one half of NYC indie rock duo The Bergamot, but after 2020 dismantled touring plans and the likes, Paul decided to jump into a solo project, and will be releasing a full-length album in the summer of 2021.
“I never planned on releasing solo work”, he explains. “At least not at this time in my life. But an unusual problem calls for unusual solutions. It was time to think outside the box. The Bergamot lost just about everything when quarantine happened. So I picked up my guitar and went straight into the studio.”
“It’s All A Rage” is Hoff’s second solo release, sticking to his indie rock roots, adding some more playful guitar elements and synthetic percussion, as she sings about the metaphorical power of weeds.
“In 2020, I found inspiration in the weeds. When a parking lot is paved, all the wildlife and plants either killed or relocated, what is the first thing to come back? The weeds. I kept thinking that if weeds can survive a desolate landscape, so can I. I have to work harder to find the opportunities to grow and when there is an openingI just have to burst through”.
His new single leans into the theme of staying strong against interference, and is personified in the new music video, as a young bell boy keeps his wits with a handful of difficult characters. Watch it below:
