Saint Paul Trio Baby Boys Share Two New Tracks & Music Videos

Absurdity is king.

Saint Paul, Minnesota indie trio Baby Boys have an unorthodox way of making music. Producers and multi-instrumentalists Caleb Hinz, Jake Luppen, and Nathan Stocker rotate vocal duties off the cuff and each has their own responsibility in terms of production and songwriting – Luppen and Hinz are on programming duties, while Stocker mans the analog instrumentation.

And to show off their versatile songwriting methods, their two new tracks “Cannonball” and “Duke and the Cash” are colourfully melodic and full of subtle details. Plus, the new music videos feature two very different characters.

Most notably “Duke and the Cash” being covered and danced to by YouTube Buff Correll. Featuring the YouTube star in his usual bedroom set up, the upbeat and energizing track certainly comes alive with the animated cameo.

On the other hand, “Cannonball” is a more lo-fi, downtempo track visually matched with a calm and cool rollerblader carrying a flag through some sunny streets.

About the songs, the band shares, β€œCaleb had the ‘Cannonball’ loop and we all just started throwing words at it. Hilarious and cathartic. The riff of ‘Duke and the Cash’ has been played at many a soundcheck, but we had never gotten around to actually using it to write a full song. It’s super fulfilling to finally have it be the banger it was always meant to be.”

Either way, Baby Boys certainly have a way with crafting interesting and catchy indie rock music, filling in the empty space with sonic textures and quirky rhythms.
