Wichita-based indie pop artist Tommy Newport started his 2021 on the right foot with his glossy hit “Yellow Lines”. As the final teaser for his upcoming collection, the Manchester-born/American indie star has finally put out the rest of the collection with his new EP Ultra Mango.
Blending together flashy psych-pop, nu-funk, and simplistic lo-fi aesthetics, Newport dazzles from start to finish on Ultra Mango, as the six-track collection never stays in one position for too long. There’s a solid variety on the album, bouncing between different flavours of indie pop, such as synth-pop flare on “Warp Speed Suzie” or ’00s-esque dance-punk on “Shooting Star”, as he explores his own inner dialogue through the lens of growing up in small town America.
