UK Post-Punk Act Sports Team Share Celebratory Single “Happy (God’s Own Country)”
Known for their energetic and dynamic live shows and recordings, British post-punk outfit Sports Team delivered one of the most exciting albums of 2020 with their debut album Deep Down Happy. As their first shining light of 2021, the group have released their new song “Happy (God’s Own Country)”, taken from their limited edition B-Sides and Rarities Vinyl Plant Test.
Like a bowling ball of pent of frustration, “Happy” came to be during the lockdown last year. Frontman Alex Rice shares, “We recorded this at the end of last year at a time when it was hard not to feel exhausted by the scale of insincerity everywhere. It’s a sort of Cold War Steve collage, a cut and paste diorama of cronyism, cottagecore and window-dressed Toryism, with the frustrated energy of live performance without a stage.”
Alongside the single, the band have shared the accompanying music video, where Wicker Man meets Midsommar. Brash percussion and steady guitar riffs lead the way as the band find their way into a ceremonial celebration.
