Vancouver Indie Pop Rising Star Titus Bank Shares New Single “I Do Yeah”
After setting a wildly ambitious goal of trying to write 365 songs in 2017, Titus Bank managed to write 185 – an impressive number considering the impossibility of his self-motivated challenge. “I would work a full day at my day job, get home and then start writing these songs. I would go until 3 or 4 in the morning, however long it took,” Titus remembers. Laughing, he adds. “I kept asking, ‘Why am I doing this to myself?!’” Whether or not he knew at the time, Bank’s drive for songwriting and immersive dedication to his craft would eventually open doors and introduce him to the right people, including Toronto indie pop act Valley, Said the Whale’s Tyler Bancroft, and We Are the City’s Cayne McKenzie.
Now heading into the next phase of his career, Titus has shared his new single “I Do Yeah”, off his forthcoming debut album. Co-written by Valley, “I Do Yeah” is a charming and exciting introduction for many new listeners, welcoming them in with his soothing R&B-infused croon and indie pop charm. And like many creative endevours, there was no clear path to the final product. Originally written as an acoustic song, “I Do Yeah” gradually developed into the confidence-boosting bop it is now. “When we initially wrote it, the idea was about trying to better yourself as a person, and proving everyone who doubts you wrong,” Titus shares, “but when we wrote the bridge, it also became about letting go of expectations to be this perfect person. It’s a tug-of-war between self-betterment and letting go of social pressure.”
As a young artist climbing his way up, Bank’s experience of explaining his aspirations to family and strangers alike comes to life on the new single. “I’m sure every artist at some point has felt pressure from a family member who doesn’t understand the music business – you’re explaining to them, ‘I’m not just some bum musician, hold on a second!’”
