Scottish Alt-Pop Trio Teose Deal With Self-Destruction On Latest Single “Oh”
Glasgow-based alt-pop 3 piece Teose unveiled their first release with UK indie label Kaleidoscope recently with the ’90s-inspired track “Oh”. Drawing in influences from dream-pop, grunge, and new wave, the Scottish trio combine hazy, fuzz-filled guitar riffs with accent-tinged pop vocals dripping with humour and apathy.
On “Oh”, the group reach into the pop-side of their sound, frontwoman Melissa Brisbane battles with herself for two and a half minutes. “The track flips between me being fairly reasonable and understanding with myself, to then being really annoyed at the irrational way I’m acting”, she shares. “Parts of it feel like the adult version of me is trying to say something important while the child version is sticking her fingers in her ears and singing ‘La la la’ over it.”
The back and forth lyricism swings in tandem with the song’s 3/4 time signature, swaying with grungy guitar distortion and a sing-along chorus of “If you don’t comfort me I will be comforted / By a little self-therapy”. The release is complete with the original acoustic demo as the accompanying B-side, offering a more intimate rendition of the alt-pop anthem.
