Dublin Hip-hop Artist Carsten2x Shares New Video For “Beaucoup”
Edited press release:
Dublin hip-hop / R&B producer and artist Carsten2X today releases the video for debut single “Beaucoup”.
Directed by Robert Bass the video follows Carsten2X as he switches between reality and fantasy. One minute it finds him in a lowly kitchen job, getting rejected by a girl, the next he’s performing at Dublin’s beloved venue Whelan’s and being showered in roses. While it focuses on his future ambitions, true to form it also finds Carsten paying tribute to his father by riding his bright green Vespa and acknowledging his Mod background – an important personal touch. “He may not understand the music I make,” Carsten says, “but he’s my number one supporter.”
Speaking more on the video, he said: “The lyrics played a big part in the video storyline. While I’m in the suit its meant represent my dreams: performing on stage and the girl etc. And then when I’m in my normal clothes: in the kitchen, on my bike, with my friends, represents my reality at the minute.”
The bouncing cut opens with warped acoustic guitar lines and whispering flute melodies before moving into its irresistible hook: ‘I need beaucoup / Real shit not that tofu / If I don’t get it might go goku’.
Exuding confidence and humour in equal measure, Carsten2X worked with Chuks Chiejine on the production (known for his work on Brockhampton‘s track “Sugar” and as a guitarist for Burna Boy) and with Richard Furch (Tobi Lou, Frank Ocean, BJ the Chicago Kid) on mixing/mastering.
An accomplished juxtaposition between his dreams, ambitions, and the stark reality, “Beaucoup” references levelling up like a ‘Super Saiyan’ and having his ‘wrist on froze’ – all cleverly pointing toward his aspirations for his new project.
Of the new single, Carsten2X commented: “So, with ‘Beaucoup’, the lyrics are kind of my work around of talking about sold out shows and plaques without having them. Basically a song about all the things I’m trying to get and accomplish. With a few tongue in cheek lines, as I try to have fun with it when I’m making songs. The hook is saying that I want these things and it’s my right to try everything to get them.
