Montreal Indie Singer-Songwriter Izabel Enters The Real World On New Single “nothingbadwillhappen”

The paradigm shift of becoming an adult is rarely a positive one; the truth of the world can be a damaging place – not to mention tax season. For Montreal singer-songwriter Izabel, that realization fuelled her latest single “nothingbadwillhappen”. Written in her late teenage years as she was feeling like her reality was not aligning with her fantasy, the song took on a new meaning as the “real world” came at her.

“‘nothingbadwillhappen’ was written a couple years back during my incredibly ignorant teenage phase. I was at my worst mentally, and above all angry with the life I was given”, she explains. “I wanted to run away. is about being in that early stage of adulthood where you’re finally starting to understand how “the world works”, but aren’t happy with the truth”.

“Being awakened to a whole new set of worries (making enough money to take care of yourself and potentially a family, paying taxes, political issues, etc). The fact that most adults don’t really know what they’re doing, so they pretend in order to seem more put together. And still when things go wrong, acting like everything is fine because what’s the alternative?”

The rush of uncertainty is masked by Izabel’s soft croon, giving the song an almost warm, melancholic tone in line with Billie Eilish courtesy of the dense, minimalist production style. Her first person perspective plays into a diary-like narrative, as she switches between negative and romanticized perspectives of the world and life.
