Indie Folk Artist Tristan Gregory Smith Finds His Footing On Dreamy Lead Single “Reverie” From Upcoming Album
Singer-songwriter Tristan Gregory Smith has experimented with a number of styles as a musician – grunge, electronic, jazz – but he eventually found his footing with indie pop. Naturally, elements of his previous endeavours seep into his work, incorporating a variety of styles and sounds into his dreamy, ethereal take on indie folk-pop. Now based in Chicago, Smith recorded his latest album Sitting With A Stranger in the country side of Washington state, outside of Seattle, and the serene, warm melancholy of the region’s musicality come through on his new single “Reverie”.
“Reverie is about looking for warmth and not finding it. I wrote it in the middle of a Chicago winter, holed up in my apartment and falling out of love”, Tristan shares. “It starts out quiet and acoustic, and grows into a lush indie pop tune that softly surrounds you. I’ve also chosen to release the demo version of “Reverie” – it was recorded the night I wrote it, as soon as I had all the lyrics written in my notebook. I think it captured something important, despite the radiator clicks and the imperfections.”
As for the studio version, the organic feel of the songwriting process is not too far off, letting his crisp vocals shine over an acoustic guitar filled with texture and performance. Fans of Fleet Foxes and The Tallest Man On Earth will find something to enjoy with Smith’s latest track:
