PREMIERE: Boko Unveils New Visual For Online Love Song “Emoji” Featuring Xavley From New ‘Dirty’ EP
Israeli/American bedroom indie singer-songwriter Boko recorded his new EP Dirty on a $30 dynamic mic with minimal recording equipment from his bedroom, giving the record an intentionally unpolished, DIY, and raw aesthetic to match his organic and unfiltered songwriting. From the release is the single “emoji”, featuring fellow DIY artist Xavley, and the pair have unveiled the trippy, animated visual to match.
Starting with its hazy, lo-fi beat, Boko originally crafted the song’s casing back in 2019 with just the chorus. He knew the song had potential, making no changes from the first draft, and didn’t want to give up on it. Stuck, he reached out to collaborate with new people, and despite his insecurities about it being a long shot, contacted Xavley. The demo that was sent back breathed new life into the project, and inspired Boko to finish the track into what it is today.
With a surreal and colourful 3D animated visualizer, “emoji” leans into its dreamy, slow-burning origins, as a miniature Boko leaps into a Nokia phone to surpass the fountain of emojis and characters that barrier themselves between a new relationship. About the single and video, Boko shares, “it’s about hoping to begin a relationship through the hardships of cellular communication. I will break through barriers, jump through portals, slide through dm’s to get us face to face. These letters and emojis don’t suffice me.”
