If you’ve been feeling let down by your music library recently, you’ve come to the right place.

Welcome to the final From the Inbox of September! It’s been a quick month it seems, but nevertheless one that has been jam packed with a stellar collection of new music.

As usual, I’ve rounded up my favourite releases from the past week in this wonderful collection of singles. Including a handful of amazing new Canadian releases from Andy Shauf, Said the Whale, and Lowell, plus even more from around the word, From the Inbox is always the right decision.

I hope you enjoy the playlist (you can find it at the bottom) and skim through a few highlights below – don’t forget: if you enjoy something, share it around!

RENÉ – Cause It

London-based electronic artist RENÉ combines shapes, sounds, and textures for her irresistible new dance hit “Cause It”. Like a futuristic arts and crafts piece, the song’s hook collides with her dense, maximalist production.

Leonie Pernet – Hard Billy

Sights and sounds come alive for the new video and single “Hard Billy” from French producer Leonie Pernet. Her entrancing production and sci-fi synthesizers are given a fresh perspective with the accompanying music video directed by filmmaker/documentarian Jean-Gabriel Périot.

Big Kill – Rose Coloured Ear Drums

Vancouver-based duo Big Kill take apart synth-pop and reconstruct it with glossy hyper-pop and enigmatic dance rhythms. On their debut single “Rose Coloured Ear Drums”, one piece of their new EP Big Kill Future, the pair turn nostalgic disco and Euro-pop elements into a futuristic pop hit.

Lowell – Caroline

As Canadian-born singer-songwriter Lowell continues to make a name for herself in the Los Angeles music scene, she returns to her roots for the nostalgia-filled piano-pop ballad “Caroline”. A reflection of her troublemaking-parent’s-booze-stealing-closeted teenage years, “Caroline” asks the question “would you go back to being a teenager”, responding with a sugar-coated yes.

Said the Whale – Sweetheart

As the October 22nd release date of their upcoming album Dandelion inches closer, Vancouver indie pop act Said the Whale share their latest single “Sweetheart”. Channeling hints of The Beatles with the noticeable indie pop flavour of producer/Hot Hot Heat’s Steve Bays, the lush love song delves into strengthening the bond in a relationship with mutually sharing secrets.

BRiNK – I Got It

After sharing his debut single “I Got It” on our Live Feedback Twitch stream, indie artist BRiNK ended up being labelled with the highly creditable “hidden gem” emote. Combining a chill bedroom pop beat with a Kid Cudi-esque hook, “I Got It” is an exciting first taste for an artist who popped up via the internet.

Deerhoof – Scarcity Is Manufactured

The only thing predictable about Deerhoof is that they are unpredictable with their polymath, rhythmic rock style. The long-standing four-piece have shared the colourful and surreal animated music video for the melodic and hypnotizing new single “Scarcity Is Manufactured”, the latest from their upcoming album Actually, You Can, out October 22nd. Influenced by guitarist Ed Rodriguez’ Mexican heritage, the joyful guitar melody was inspired by Ritchie Valens’ rendition of “La Bamba”.

Triston James – The House

19 year old, Fredericksburg, Virginia-based singer-songwriter Triston James was inspired by Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers for their delicate new single “The House”. Rich with folk instrumentation and lead by a haunting vocal performance, the new single is a nostalgic and warm-spirited listening experience.
