Quebecois Singer-Songwriter Geneviève Racette Unveils New Ballad With Dallas Green “Someone”; Announces New Tour Dates
Internationally renowned Québécois singer-songwriter, Geneviève Racette has shared her stunning new ballad “Someone”, lifted from her forthcoming album Satellite, out March 18th.
Written back in 2019, the song is a vulnerable and haunting offering that explores feelings of desire, temptation, fantasy, and its consequential guilt. “Sometimes life throws feelings at you and they’re meant to act as signals. Personally, this was an alarm constantly ringing in my ears telling me my relationship had to end,” explains Racette.
Bringing the pull and push of emotions to life, “Someone” is a duet with the legendary Dallas Green of City and Colour. Following an online interaction, a series of events lead to him singing alongside Racette on the final version.
After posting a cover of City and Colour’s “Hello, I’m In Delaware”, her teenage musical hero liked her post and sent her a personal message of praise. “I thought someone was trolling me,” she remembers. “That message made me feel so good, it’s indescribable. Getting validation from one of my songwriting heroes was pretty cool.” To her surprise, he also invited her to share the stage with him at Osheaga. Later, after completing demos for her upcoming album, Racette shared them with him, and responded with his appreciation for “Someone” and asked if he could sing the track with her.
Their resulting musical chemistry is magnetic, each with their own expressive style and ear-grabbing vocal qualities, as they sing “I wanna dance, I wanna run, but I’ve got to go home to someone”.
Geneviève will be opening for City and Colour at his upcoming Montreal show in February, and will be heading out on her own tour as well (dates below).
