But most of all, don’t forget to follow the playlist!
Bakers Eddy – Hi-Vis Baby
Australian-New Zealand surf-punks Bakers Eddy are getting ready to splash onto the scene with their debut album Love Boredom Bicycles on March 25th. Their new single “Hi-Vis Baby” is a nod to the bike-themed title, written about trying to bike while being cut-off by four-wheelers on the side of the road. It’s groovy, rambunctious and an absolute ear-worm – no surprise, considering the band’s previous releases.
Onsloow – Sleeping/Daydreaming
Norwegian indie rock newcomers Onsloow made a strong first impression with their recently released debut album S/T. Full of energizing pop-punk, dream-pop, and indie dance rock, opening single “Sleeping/Daydreaming” is one of many hits from the 8-track effort, and combines all of the best elements of the album into a brimming 3 minutes.
Said the Whale – Return To Me
Vancouver indie pop act Said the Whale continue to reinvent their humble, yet invigorating style on their latest single “Return To Me”. Explosive sing-alongs, catchy hooks, and heartfelt lyricism makes for a pleasant, somewhat surprise release, as the band announce a deluxe version of their recent album Dandelion will be available on February 11th.
Dahlia Sleeps – The Calm You Keep
London-based duo Dahlia Sleeps are releasing their debut full-length Overflow on April 8th. Their new single “The Calm You Keep” is the collection’s closing track, bearing plenty of emotion and shimmering production for a compelling and breathtaking performance. Written from the perspective of a mother supporting her child through mental ill-health, the song is a poised and poignant effort.
Pussy Riot – PUNISH
Russian protest art-pop collective Pussy Riot are set to release a new project later this year. Dipping into a more hyper-pop and electronic direction, their new single “PUNISH” and its accompanying visual follows a (s)hero who aims to bring judgement down on the sexist, “Weinsteins of the world”.
Léonie Gray – Monsters and Echoes
Montreal-based artist Léonie Gray has released her catchy new single “Monsters and Echoes”. Inspired by a dream she had that involved an office of co-workers and bosses turning into monsters, the new single is an unexpected anthem for those who feel trapped in the 9-5 corporate life, masked by groovy R&B and a retro-tinged spirit.
