Soul Act King Garbage Share New Video For “Busy On A Saturday Night” From Upcoming Full-Length
Providing their own re-imagination of American soul, the Grammy award-nominated producer duo of Zach Cooper and Vic Dimotsis (Leon Bridges, Jon Batiste) joined forces to become King Garbage back in 2017. Moving forward with the project, King Garbage are set to release their second album Heavy Metal Greasy Love on April 1st, and have shared its latest single “Busy On A Saturday Night”.
As for its inspiration, the song relates back to a fridge magnetic that Vic’s great grandmother owned: “It had a sweaty male stripper pictured on it and said, ‘Everything I want is either taken, or busy on a Saturday night”.
He adds, “Blurry as a memory on a slinky night out. A Tom Waits inspired roadster awaits high high heels on a sure fire adventure. Losing articles of clothing to the magnet of the pavement, the band plays on through a duct from another world, and our eyes blur from both lust and disgust. Such motion seems still, as the accelerator and brakes lose meaning. A quiet lonely brunch awakens us from a distant stare.”
Blurred, time-slowing memories find a new form in the song’s dreamy, bedroom-eyed demeanour. Vintage guitar tones and syrupy melodies evoke a bossanova, ’60s-era feel, as “Busy On A Saturday Night” nods to soul pioneers and jazz lounge influencers.
“It’s a taste of retro without being a reproduction,” observes Vic.
