Singer-Songwriter Matt Holubowski Unveils New Single “Heavy Stone”
Following his 2020 album Weird Ones, singer-songwriter Matt Holubowski retreated to Banff to decompress and take advantage of the extra time brought into his life as a creator due to the pandemic.
“I realized the pandemic forced me into having a lot the very thing I constantly said I lacked: time.” notes Matt. “Time to mess around. Time to tinker. Time to turn knobs on various machines. Time to read and think about something meaningful to write about. Time to write a few bad songs before getting to the good ones. Time to write for myself and only myself. No deadline, no expectations, no business end”.
With a well of new music on the horizon, Holubowski has shared his latest effort “Heavy Stone”, and its accompanying visualizer. Capturing his emotive and versatile vocals alongside dreamy yet impactful folk stylings, “Heavy Stone” is a captivating release that continues to move his sound into bigger territory.
Composed of photographs from Matt’s international travels, the accompanying visualizer provides a bridge between his creative process and his sense of discovery. “Heavy Stone” was originally born out of experimenting with a harmonizer pedal and loosely lyrically based on poems by Emily Dickinson and Allan Ginsberg, as well as another pivotal inspiration point: “I was walking down the snowy path at the Banff Centre to my cabin and I slipped and fell on my ass and it hurt like hell. Was listening to a Ben Howard song at the time where he sings ‘I know I’m a hard rock to drag around’, and I very much relate to the feeling of being self-aware of my flaws and being appreciative of people putting up with them. Hence the heavy stone. Same feeling really.”
