Montreal Soul-Pop Artist Léonie Gray Shares Burlesque-Inspired Video For “Slitted Tongue” Off Upcoming Debut LP

Edited press release:

Montreal’s Léonie Gray shares the vintage burlesque-inspired video for her recent single “Slitted Tongue”, off her forthcoming debut LP Who? coming out on April 22, 2022. “This new single describes the overwhelming feeling and thought process of having someone interrupting you while you’re speaking about something you’re passionate about and which you work hard for;” shares Léonie.

In a spirit of self-acceptance, women’s liberation, and the promotion of diversity from all angles, Léonie delivers a beautiful video that merges her vintage image with sexy burlesque. While she interprets a cabaret singer, we discover the journey of a dancer, going from the rigid ballet class to the burlesque stage. The ballerina chooses to drop the dance costume and perform freely on stage.

The video features Lou Lou la Duchesse de Rière, the first Canadian Indigenous woman to bear the title of Queen of Burlesque. She uses her art to break the social constructions surrounding the sexuality of First Nations women and imposes new standards of beauty in the burlesque community.

The music video for “Slitted Tongue” represents freedom of expression, the need to be heard and seen for who we are, not what others want us to be;” says Léonie. “In seeking to assert our word, we take the time to listen to ourselves. There is nothing more liberating.
