Americana Rock Group Plastic Harpoons Write Their Own Folklore For New Single “Diamond Wings”
Santa Barbara Americana group Plastic Harpoons are gearing up to release their debut album Modern World via Lolipop Records on October 17th. With a clear influence to the ’60s and ’70s classic folk rock days, and the timeless sunshine of Americana, the band have shared their latest single and video “Diamond Wings”.
Sharing similarities to their modern peers such as The Weeks, Kurt Vile, and Houndmouth, Plastic Harpoons use their twangy guitar riffs and steady rhythms for a melodic narrative about pride and ignorance.
“‘Diamond Wings’ is a story about a modern day Icarus – a man obsessed with climbing higher, disillusioned by the life that he leads”, the band share. “He separates himself from the masses, via drugs, material possessions, and shows of wealth. Eventually, he loses perspective, ignoring the advice of his own father along the way, leading to dire consequences. I think unintentionally the song is also a metaphor for my thoughts on the current state of modern man”.
Leaning into their Western influences, the accompanying music video features the misadventures of a cowboy and his musical friends.
